Office of Code Enforcement

The Office of Code Enforcement is housed within the Atlanta Police Department. It is responsible for the inspection and enforcement of residential and commercial properties that violate the Atlanta Housing Code, Graffiti Ordinance, and/or Commercial Maintenance and Industrial Code. The Office’s mission is to ensure safe and sanitary conditions in housing and commercial properties through effective code enforcement efforts.

Section I - Customer Service

Total customer-initiated service requests and the percentage of those service requests that were resolved within the Office's target timeframes

ALL CUSTOMER SERVICE REQUESTS (TOTAL DEPARTMENT)

The Atlanta office of Code Enforcement receives a number of service requests from the public mostly focused on inspecting suspected housing code violations of property maintenance and highly hazardous housing conditions. Each service request has a time goal for completion. If an inspection results in a violation found, a citation is then sent to the property owner and a judicial process begins. The chart below shows the total volume of active service requests for a month (blue) and the percent of those that are within their completion goal (red).

Property Maintenance Inspection Service Requests

The Atlanta Office of Code Enforcement receives a number of service requests each month from the public to inspect possible property maintenance violations. These include junk vehicles, overgrowth on property, or debris and garbage. The chart below shows the total volume of active service requests for a month (blue) and the percent of those that are within their inspection completion goal of 120 calendar days (red).

Highly Hazardous Inspection Service Requests

The Atlanta Office of Code Enforcement receives a number of service requests from the public to inspect possible highly hazardous housing conditions. These include broken HVAC, broken windows and doors, and roof collapses without repair attempts. The chart below shows the total volume of active service requests for a month (blue) and the percent of those that are within their inspection completion goal of 58 calendar days (red).

Total Code Compliance Complaints and Backlog of Uninspected Complaints

The Atlanta Office of Code Enforcement receives possible housing code violation notifications from the public through the City’s 311 line. The volume of complaints (red) changes on a seasonal pattern with low points in the colder months and high volume in the summer months.
